Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome
Hand arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) is a condition that affects people who have worked with heavy duty vibrating tools (especially miners and road diggers, but also other construction workers and possibly those using industrial sewing machines, grinders, floor polishers etc) - HAVS includes the much better known condition of Vibration White Finger (VWF) where the fingers blanch (especially when exposed to cold) and can even be lost. There are estimated to be about 301,000 sufferers in Britain today.
